The story of the Stove Tile – From Clay to the Terracotta Stove

Part of the charm of the Transylvanian houses is terracotta stoves. You find them in a corner but they catch the attention with their vegetal motifs and with the shades of blue and green. Once the highlight of technology and with a great aesthetic value, the terracotta stoves are still manufactured in Medias. Piece by piece, tile by tile. The process is mostly manual. A mold is created, clay is printed, dried, colored, varnished, burned.

Our mission in the factory will reveal to us every stage of this elaborate process. Once the new knowledge are gained, we will create our own stove tile, following the steps of a process perfected in hundreds of years.
